Welcome to the Liss Area Historical Society web site.

The Society was started more than twenty five years ago by a small group of enthusiasts. We now have about a hundred members but we need more.

We have a programme of talks each year during the autumn and winter, when we meet on the last THURSDAY of each month, normally at the Central Hall (Liss Evangelical Church) in Liss Forest. Meetings start at 7.30 pm. During December, we hold our Christmas social event, normally at the Triangle Centre in Liss. We have now started our new "season" of talks. Our next meeting, which is also our Annual General Meeting, will be on 26th January 2012, at the Central Hall (Liss Evangelical Church) Liss Forest. The speaker will be Michael Spilberg, who will be giving us a brief history of Anglo Saxon literature. Members have received details of the AGM with the latest newsletter and the Agenda is shown on the "Programme of Events" page of this site.

Talks are open to members and non-members and are free for members. Why not come and join us?

We need new members, including those who might be willing to serve on the committee and help with the running of the Society or be willing to help with archival work (including people who can use a computer). Although our objectives are mainly serious, we also have fun!

The Society is a registered charity.

Where is Liss?

It lies in the Rother Valley, about 4/5 miles north of Petersfield in Hampshire. The land rises in the east (Hillbrow) and to the West (Wheatham Hill).

Our header photo is of Station Road.

Meetings and Lectures:

These are held at Central Hall, Liss Forest on the last Thursday in each of the months of September- April inclusive (December's meeting at The Triangle Community Centre). The subject of each meeting is published to members and is advertised in the village, in advance. Entry to these meetings is free to members. Non-members are welcome to attend at a cost of £2.00 per meeting. Social events and outings are organised during the summer months. See "programme of events" page, which also has an easy map link to help you find Central Hall if you don't know where it is.

The Liss Collection:

The Society maintains the Liss Collection of artefacts and memorabilia in the Archive and Study rooms at the Triangle Community Centre. The Archive Group meets throughout the year under the direction of the Archivist -Mike Jordan [01730 893454]- in order to catalogue, record and conserve the collection. New members of this group are always welcome. We could do with some extra help.
