Trollops, Trains and Traffic Barrie Watson Wednesday 15 April 2026

Much changed in Liphook over the 19th century.  The presentation tells how Liphook developed from an agricultural parish with rural poverty resulting in the outbreak of Swing Riots in the early century.  Was this the cause of moral decadence? The local vicar certainly thought so! Coaching brought prosperity until it was killed off by the railway.  And from the very invention of the motor car everyone complained about the traffic!
